Module 7: Landing Your Dream Job (Required)

Throughout this program, you will work closely with the Career Services team to prepare for the job search. The goal of the Career Services team can be summed up in a single word: empowerment. They are here to motivate you, offer support, and provide strategies for reaching beyond your comfort zone to find the right opportunity for you. And remember that the more information you share, the better equipped our team will be to help in your job search.

What to Expect on the Job Hunt

Throughout this program, you will spend time networking and developing a professional narrative to market yourself to employers.

Becoming Employer Competitive

  • Work with your Profile Coach until your materials are Employer Competitive. Complete the Career Services Milestones, and submit your professional materials. Your Profile Coach will provide unlimited feedback on all of your materials. Although we have suggested submission dates, you can complete the Milestones in any order and at any time.
  • Shortly before graduation, your Career Director will invite you to your first 1:1 coaching session. Meet with your Career Director consistently by committing to regularly scheduled sessions.
  • Attend our weekly Career Services Online Events & Workshops to refine your career-building skills. Find the schedule of events here: CS Online Events
  • Start early, and get Employer Ready by graduation. You are more likely to secure the job you are looking for when you enter the job market before or close to graduation.

Common Misconceptions

  1. You have to master all concepts and methodologies taught in this course. You'll learn so much in this boot camp that it'll make your head spin. Remind yourself that you don't need to master everything in only a few weeks. Focus on topics that engage you most and expand your technology skill set by exploring online resources.

  2. You need previous experience in Project Management. If you don't have any prior experience in this field, don't worry! Many companies will let you learn on the job, and they will appreciate the unique perspective and set of skills that you bring to the table.

  3. You need every skill listed in the job description. Job descriptions can be misleading, especially if they are written by someone who is not familiar with the field (as they often are). Apply even if you're unsure whether you fit every requirement in the description. Use your cover letter to showcase your strengths, like your ability to learn quickly. (Your boot camp experience is a great example!)

  4. You need a certificate of completion from the boot camp. You don't need a certificate to begin applying to jobs; you can start applying as soon as you’ve worked with Career Services to develop your career profile. Don't be afraid to start early! Practice towards perfection, and you'll only get better with each interview.

What You DO Need to Succeed

  1. A professional narrative that showcases your strengths, skills, and passions.

  2. An ability to showcase your previous skills and how they add to your value as a Project Management professional.

  3. A friendly demeanor—people hire people they like!

  4. An ability to talk about Project Management, using industry language.

  5. Practice, practice, practice. The more interviews and networking events you attend, the more prepared you'll be for your next opportunity.

Activity

  • Upload your current resume to your module 7 pre-work folder in Bootcamp Spot when you have access.
  • If you do not have a resume, create a document that chronicles your work experience. You will be working with Career Services to improve your resume later in the course.
